DIY Cat Beds

September 15, 2017
Do you have a kitty? If so, there’s a pretty good chance that your feline pal is sleeping right now. Cats certainly are drowsy little furballs. In fact, Fluffy tends to sleep at least 14 hours a day, and can spend as much as 20 hours a day snoozing! Therefore, it probably isn’t much of a surprise to realize that one of the best things you can do for your sleepy pet is to provide her with lots of comfy beds and napping spots. Here, a Fayetteville, NC vet lists some DIY cat beds.

Wicker Baskets

One of the easiest ways to make a kitty bed is to just get a large wicker basket. Add a soft pillow or a folded up blanket, and tell Fluffy not to use it. She will immediately hop right in and get comfortable!

Hard-Shell Suitcases

Does your kitty tend to jump into your suitcase when you are trying to pack for a trip? If so, your furball will likely love a repurposed suitcase bed. Just be sure to brace or remove the top part, so it can’t accidentally close on her.

Hatbox

A hatbox is another cute kitty bed idea. Look for a nice one that matches your décor, and then add soft bedding.

Sweater

There’s an easy way to turn an old sweater or sweatshirt into a kitty bed. Sew the wrists close, and then fold the sleeves and torso into a U or O shape and sew them together. Add stuffing, and then close up the neck. Done!

Repurposed End Table

Get an old end table with doors, and take the doors off. Then, put a pillow or store-bought bed inside it. You can dress it up by using paint, varnish, or stencils.

Kitty Hammock

To make a hammock bed for Fluffy, all you need are a piece of thick material and a coffee table or end table with four legs. Measure and cut the fabric so that it’s just a bit smaller than the tabletop, then use Velcro to attach it to the legs. Voila!

Pet Tent

You can make Fluffy a comfy pet tent in just a few minutes using an old tee shirt and a wire hangar. Look online for step-by-step instructions. Do you have questions or concerns about your cat’s health or care? We can help! Contact us, your Fayetteville, NC animal hospital, today!
