Fido’s Summer Plans

Are you making a lot of plans this year? With many of last year’s events being shelved due to coronavirus, people are definitely going to be making the most of this summer. Our canine pals also love this time of year! Here, a Fayetteville, NC vet lists some things on Fido’s 2021 to-do list.
Parks
Going to the park isn’t just fun for Fido: it’s also beneficial for him. Dogs really enjoy and need interactions with other pups. This is also a great way for your pooch to get his doggy workout in. Try some new places this year! Just make sure your canine buddy is microchipped, wearing ID tags, and current on parasite control and vaccinations.Barbeques
We can’t blame Fido for this one. Grilling out is one of our favorite summer pastimes as well! Just keep a close eye on your pooch. Don’t let him get too close to the grill. Also, be careful what you offer him. A plain burger, brat, or hot dog is fine, but don’t give your dog meat on the bone or anything raw. Other unsafe foods include garlic, onions, scallions, and chives; avocado; chocolate; pitted fruits; grapes and raisins; alcohol; and anything that contains xylitol.Splashing Fun
If you enjoy swimming, you may absolutely love summer. Plenty of dogs also enjoy the water. Safety first, though. Keep a close eye on Fido when he’s around water, and never leave him unattended. Ask your vet for more information.Playtime
Fido is frisky and playful all year, but he absolutely loves to run and play when it’s really nice out. Take time out of your schedule regularly to toss a ball or Frisbee for your furry friend. Those warm summer evenings are a great time for relaxing with your canine companion!Treats
Ice cream is the perfect snack for those sweltering summer days. You can pick up some for Fido at a local pet store or grocery market. Or, try making your own. For a base, you can mix and match natural PB, ripe bananas, sodium-free broth, plain yogurt, organic baby food, liver powder, canned dog food, and/or pureed pumpkin or squash.
