Kitten Care Tips

February 15, 2022
Have you recently adopted a kitten? Congratulations! Little Fluffy may be small, but she can fill a massive place in your heart. Of course, kittens can be a handful. You’ve got some parenting ahead of you! A Fayetteville, NC vet discusses kitten care below.

Raise Her Right

Socialization is very important at this stage. Spend lots of time petting and handling little Fluffy, so she grows up to be friendly and polite. Playing is also a great way to bond with your feline buddy. Just don’t encourage your tiny lion to bite or scratch.

Expect The Unexpected

One thing we know about cats: they never stop surprising us. Don’t be surprised if you find your furball stuck in your shoe or peering out at you from a cupboard. That’s just purr for the course!

Don’t Skip Veterinary Care

Kittens are very small and fragile. You want to get little Fluffy started out on the right paw in life. Don’t wait to take her to the vet. Schedule her appointments now!

Keep Kitty Safe

Little Fluffy is full of mischief. Unfortunately, that can get them into trouble. Do some petproofing! Move or secure things like ropes and cords; toxic plants; and small or sharp objects. Also, keep things like toilets and dryers closed when they aren’t in use.

Keep An Eye Out

Baby cats can fit into some very small spaces. If you aren’t sure where little Fluffy is, check beneath cushions, blankets, and recliners before sitting down.

Build Trust

The interactions you have with your kitty now will set the stage for your relationship. Cats often think of their humans as second parents, but you need to build that bond. Pay lots of attention to little Fluffy, and offer lots of cuddles.

Choose Age-Appropriate Products

Not everything made for adult cats is safe for your furball. Don’t use foods, litters, or flea-control products that are made for grown-up kitties. If in doubt about something, check with your vet. (Note: this doesn’t apply to cat beds and furniture.)

Take Pictures

Cats somehow manage to get cuter as they age. However, they are ridiculously adorable as kittens. This charming stage of little Fluffy’s life will be over before you know it. Be sure to take lots of pictures and videos! As your local Fayetteville, NC veterinary clinic, we are dedicated to offering great veterinary care. Please contact us anytime!
