8 Ways to Pamper a Rabbit

Have you recently adopted a rabbit? We probably don’t have to tell you that bunnies make absolutely adorable pets. However, Floppy does have some specific needs, so first-time bunny owners will need to do some research. Here, a Fayetteville, NC veterinarian offers tips on how to spoil your furry pal.

Free Time

This one really shouldn’t be considered pampering, as it really falls under basic bunny care. However, it’s definitely worth mentioning. Bunnies are very active, curious, and playful, and can quickly become unhappy if they are stuck in their cages too often. Let Floppy have plenty of playtime out of her cage.

Toys

Floppy needs lots of toys, including chew toys. You can check our previous blog for DIY options. Bunnies also enjoy things like stuffed animals, willow balls or bridges, or cardboard castles.

Hopstacle Course

We all  know that bunnies like to jump. Why not make Floppy her own little hopstacle course? You can use things like storage totes, boxes, and ottomans.

Playroom

Bunnyproofing is an absolute must with these guys. Consider making one room a bunny play zone, and bunnyproofing that. This is a great way to give your furball lots of play space without risking her getting hurt or chewing your things.

Comfy Cage

Make sure that your furry little friend has a roomy, comfortable cage. This should include a litterbox, hay feeder, hidey-hole, and dishes. Be sure to keep the cage nice and clean!

Grooming

Bunnies are quite clean, but they do need a bit of help in this department. You should never bathe Floppy. However, you should brush her regularly, and daily during molts. You’ll also need to clip her claws and gently clean her ears. Ask your vet for specific advice.

Treats!

Just like any other pets, bunnies love treats. Floppy actually has a bit of a sweet tooth. While you don’t want to give her too many sugary snacks, the occasional strawberry or piece of banana makes a good treat. Just be sure to research new foods before offering them to your rabbit, to make sure they’re safe.

Last but not least, rabbits must feel loved to truly be happy. Pay lots of attention to your cute little pet, and spend time with her every day.
